Years ago I struggled to inspire my students, so I brought real-world learning into the classroom.

I was teaching in the Arctic, doing my best to engage students with meaningful science, but feeling the weight of isolation and limited real life resources. That’s when I started reaching out to field scientists working nearby—not for a program, just for real connection. What started as a few conversations turned into powerful collaborations. I figured out how to authentically connect with scientists, bring their work into my classroom, and spark curiosity in a way that felt alive. That changed everything—for me, and for my students.
