Have you ever dreamed of exploring the the Arctic? Nestled amidst the pristine Arctic landscape, Utqiagvik is an unforgettable experience for educators seeking adventure. Here, you’ll not only be surrounded by breathtaking beauty, learn from the worlds leading Arctic scientists, search for Arctic wildlife but you will also have the chance to delve deep into the rich tapestry of the Inupiaq culture.
Your journey begins with a warm welcome from from me, Kirsten (your friend and guide). I will be waiting to greet you when you arrive at the airport in Utqiagvik (Barrow). From there, I will take you to check into the Top of the World Hotel for a relaxing welcome dinner and evening. After that, get ready for a whirlwind of Arctic experiences that will excite you and make you feel “Top of this world!”:) You’ll tour Ilisagvik College, Alaska’s only Tribal College, the Heritage Center, Search and Rescue, NOAA, meet Arctic scientists conducting groundbreaking research, go on wildlife viewing adventures and indulge in local Inupiaq cuisine (just to name a few).
But the real magic lies in the cultural immersion and authentic connections you’ll forge along the way. Depending on the time of year you visit you will participate in traditional dances, traditional games and fall harvest festivals, where you’ll gain firsthand insight into the joys and challenges of teaching in a remote Alaskan community. And don’t forget the Arctic wildlife excursions we will go on, where you might spot beluga whales, polar bears, arctic fox, caribou and migratory birds in their natural habitat.
Each season in Utqiagvik offers its own unique charm, from the endless daylight of summer to the ethereal glow of the northern lights in winter. Whether you’re savoring the milder temperatures of spring or embracing the cozy atmosphere of fall, you’re in for an unforgettable journey filled with adventure, cultural immersion, and the beauty of the Arctic wilderness.
Your lodging, ground transportation, activities and family style meals while you are in Utqiagvik (Barrow), Alaska are all apart of the package! All you need to do is pay for your flights to/from Utqiagvik (Barrow) and any spending money you might want to bring! It is suggested that you do have some reserved for extra meals and hotel rooms incase your flight gets canceled (in or out) of the Arctic due to weather (rarely happens but is possible).
